MOWAC calls for investigation into murder of women

The Ministry of Women and Children's Affairs (MOWAC) has appealed to the Police to conduct thorough investigations and ensure the culprits in the gruesome murder of some women are arrested and prosecuted.

Additionally, it appealed to the public to be vigilant and report such criminals in their neighbourhoods to the Police.

The Ministry made the appeal in a statement issued in Accra and signed by Mrs. Adiza Ofori-Adu, its Public Relations Officer.

It expressed shock and concern about the alleged murder of two women recently. One of the victims was Madam Alice Nimo, a 42-year-old Primary School teacher at her residence at North Nkwabeng, a suburb of Sunyani, in the Brong Ahafo Region. The other was 28-year-old Naomi Hammond at Tabora-Chantan, a suburb in Accra.

The statement said the late Madam Nimo, a teacher at Stadium Primary School in Sunyani was allegedly shot dead in her room by two unidentified gunmen at dawn.

It said following a report by the 11-year-old niece of the deceased and some elders within the neighborhood, the police rushed to the scene and found the deceased lying in a pool of blood with her hands and legs tied.

According to the statement, there were also stripes all over her body indicating that she was whipped.

In the case of Ms Hammond, the statement said she was found dumped in a refuse container in front of a house with the corpse drenched in blood and her limbs and neck broken.
